IGO 26 2.4t
The problem
The site just off Kilburn High Road in London is to
have a 5/6storey building constructed across the entire
front and right hand elevations. The remaining open
courtyard area of the site behind this was 9m x 9m
square completely enclosed by existing buildings to
the left and rear. The courtyard space was the only
area on site to locate all materials storage, their
temporary offices and a crane.
The solution
R & B were asked if they had a solution as no
other U K crane hire company could offer a self erector
that would fit within the site (and for cost reasons,
a top slew crane was not an option).
We had recently taken delivery
of the first IGO26 SETC delivered in the UK... when
folded down this crane has the most compact footprint
of any 1000kg min. payload class crane available.
The result
The contractor was able to use the IGO26 SETC to erect
all structural steelwork, pc units, brickwork, blockwork,
cladding and roofing materials...all for a cost of
less than £500/wk.
The project manager said "with
deliveries often affected by London traffic congestion
having the IGO26 on site 24/7 made planning delivery
schedules much more flexible and allowed every inch
of this tight site to be accessible for loading out
and storage".
When the time came to remove
the SETC crane it was folded down diagonally across
the site, clearing the elevations of the buildings
with less than 100mm each end to spare. It was then
lifted out using a 120 tonne Grove Mobile Crane.
