MCT88 - Topless CITY Crane
The problem
What options do you have when you have absolutely
no space to set up a Self Erecting Tower Crane (SETC)
or position mobile cranes on site? Or when even the
largest SETC will not quite provide you with the duties
you need. At the same time, the cost of conventional
tower cranes appears beyond your budget.
These were just the same problems faced by an R&B
customer on the south coast of England:
- A site 97% covered by the new building;
- Only one 1.8m square light well;
- and a need to lift loads of 3,000kg at 25m.
The solution
The MCT88... if you attended SED
2007 then you may know that this was the first remote
control 'topless' CITY crane that Potain have introduced
into the UK.
Designed to fill the gap between SETC's and large
tower cranes, the CITY crane with its small 1.2m square
mast and low overturning moment meant that it could
do the job, the crane foundation was then cost effectively
designed and integrated into the substructure.
It was erected in less than TWO days and at reasonable
cost due to its modular construction and safer rigging
systems when compared with other larger or more traditional
tower cranes.
The result
R&B provided a materials handling solution that fell
within budget... and the capacity to get the job done.
